Project Overview

Designing a student facing media library for the world's largest educational technology company means access to thousands of proprietary media pieces. A student should be able to browse through, search and organize this media as easily as anything else on the web. This project was a proof of concept piece that takes all of Pearson's digital content and applies a more modern approach to making it relevant to a student's daily life. This new "smart" system would deliver the student media that is related to up and coming assignments and test in their classes, as well as provide them additional media that is based on their own personal interest.

In addition to these timely delivered recommendations, each subject would also feature it's own section in the media library. Here the students can find media that is correlated with lessons for the class this week and see review topics before upcoming test. There's also an additional section of content that shows you how material you are learning in this subject relates to things in other subjects.

My Role

This media library section was part of a bigger student learning management system that I was designing along side two other designers. We each had our own sections of the platform to work on, yet we very much worked as a team. We reviewed each other's work and created commonality in our designs. I was responsible for the approach and design of the media library and it's related sections.

The interest driven content and cross subject related materials were ideas I had about nurturing further self-driven investigation of an educational topic that may not be covered in a course they are currently taking. In user testing with high school students, these ideas well very well received and many considered it something they could see themselves using often.
