Monarch was a proof of concept project for an educational iOS game. It's kind of a cross between a Facebook map that keeps track of historical sites you've visited, a scavenger hunt and a trivia game. Here's the idea. Basically, there would be several locations you could visit throughout the world. DK's Eye Witness Travel Guide's API would be featured as part of the Monarch app as well, allowing you to study these locations in preparation for the trivia aspect of the game. Upon visiting one of the locations in the game, Monarch would use GPS and augmented reality and "hide" trivia questions through out the location. Answering as many question as they can in order to "conquer" that location. Then check their standings amongst friends and brag about their travels and victory on Facebook.
I was both the UX and visual designer for this project from the beginning. I designed the art and logo featured throughout the project. I really enjoyed the theme of the game and had a great time designing it. The original idea for the game was the brain child of Eddie Peterson based out of Pearson Knowledge Technologies in NYC. I helped develop Eddie's idea into a series of fully designed screens that demonstrated it's key features and gameplay. The project was submitted to an internal innovation challenge for Pearson employees. It won 1st place.
